All our picnics and walks are based at Horseford Farm, near Witheridge in Devon. We offer you 2 different types of experience for your pony trekking "on foot" adventure...
A Pony Walk, and our classic Pony Picnic
No previous experience of horses and or ponies is necessary, and we provide all the safety equipment.
For those who would like to lead a pony on the trek, there is a short introduction to pony handling before we set out.
We always allocate one experienced helper per pony to assist you on your adventure.
Those handling ponies on the walk can either bring their own riding hat (conforming to standards PAS015 or EN1384), or borrow one from us.
By walking on the country lanes, it means that the terrain under foot is very good. Our routes are accessible for most people. There is a hill or two to negotiate along the way but nothing too steep. Local land owners have been kind enough to allow us to walk over grassy fields and so we have a selection of lovely picnic sites, each very different in its setting.
Children are very welcome on our walks. We have a 1 hour walk suitable for younger children. Children under 4 years of age come for free and we recommend that parents bring a child carrier or pushchair for these younger members. The 2 hour walks are suitable for older children and we cover a distance of around 4 miles. On a picnic walk, we stop halfway for lunch. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Our experienced helpers are always looking out for the safety of the walkers and the ponies. They are able to provide extra assistance for those who need it, by having the ponies under under "dual control".
